Word on the web is that FFXIII’s Lightning was modeled after another series hero. Apparently, character designer Tetsuya Nomura was tasked to make a female version of FFVII’s Cloud Strife. With so much speculation over Lightning’s seemingly cold disposition, this bit of trivia certainly clarifies expectations.
Some of the positive qualities we can expect?A strong serious foil for a cast of zany sidekicks
Awesome effing sword
Awesome effing hair
A muddy, emotionally engaging past
A history working for the enemy
Of course, Cloud also came off as quiet and even stoic at times, and a bit self-centered to begin with.
In what ways do you hope Lighting is like Cloud? How do you hope she’s different?

Having played very little VII (The PSP version has yet to come out on in my region) I can't quite relate, but I'd hope that she maintains strong, self-empowered disposition as Cloud did in the movie. He carried himself well, but he wasn't afraid to have moments of melancholic self-reflection, either. I like a well written, multidimensional character.

I hope the history is particurlarly well done, it would be interesting what can be the reasons behind Lightning's rebellion other then 'saving the world'.

This is old news. It was stated ages ago in an interview with the designer himself that he was tasked to create a female version of Cloud. next please.
